The extracorporeal circuit LTS system is a porto-jugular shunt designed to ensure blood circulation during experimental liver transplantation of large animals. During transplantation, before the recipient's liver is removed, blood is sucked from the v. lienalis into our system, passes through the pump head of the circulation pump and eventually replenished with substitution solutions, cleared of any bubbles and thrombi in two stages.
Heat exchanger tempers blood to the animal's physiological temperature and subsequently the blood is returned via the v. jugularis. The integrated pressure sensors control the inlet and outlet hydrostatic resistance of the vascular system, and the feedback controls circulation pump blood flow through the circuit, which is an important parameter for proper transplantation.
Extracorporeal circuit reducing the temperature of blood, so the blood temperature is monitored by integrated temperature sensors and before returning to an animal blood is reheated by the heat exchanger with laminarizer to an optimum temperature. Tempering of blood supports the procedure.
In a large surgical field, a significant loss of temperature occurs during transplantation, which is difficult to compensate by external heating (eg by heating pads). The system consists of a sterile set (own extracorporeal circuit design) consisting of PVC hoses (biocompatible PVC and silicone), connecting and regulating components (biocompatible PS), two bubble traps (remove bubbles and clots), and two heat exchangers with laminarizer of our construction.
Pumping of blood (or other solutions) through the extracorporeal circuit is provided by a contactless centrifugal blood pump with speed control and flow measurement. The set includes ports, allowing connection of sensors for temperature and pressure measurement.
The heat exchanger is tempered by the primary circuit, which is connected to the circulation source of the tempering liquid. For controlling, monitoring and recording the physical quantities in the circuit (measuring pressure and temperature at key locations, temperature control and flow of quench liquid through the primary circuit pump) is used biomonitor of our design (HW and SW).
