Abstract

The gold standard is lobectomy and systematic mediastinal lymphadenectomy. In high-risk patients, sublobar resections may be considered in very selected cases.

VATS (video-assisted minithoracothomy, minithoracotomy) resection becomes the method of choice for faster recovery of patients, lower morbidity and comparable oncological effectiveness compared to open chest surgery. Centralization to high-volume specialized pneumo-oncosurgical centers is key for good results.
