Romanian Writer in Exil: Glory or Oblivion? Case of Petru Popescu

Abstract

From the whole formem Soviet bloc in the years of 1945-1989 left most writers from Romania (in proportion to the population) who more or less successfully integrated into the cultural context of the new homeland. One of them was the prose writer Petru Popescu, who by his novel reached great popularity within the younger generation at the turn of the 60's and 70's of the 20th century.

After the emigration in 1974, he began to writer in English. He fell into oblivion in Romania, and even after the revolution, he din not gain his position.

He succeededin th USA as the author of consumer and non-fiction literature.
