The study describes the development of the attitude of the Prague urban political elite towards the Lutheran Reformation and the roll of these teachings in the formation of the power position of the Prague towns in estate society of the "long" 16th century. Attention is focussed especially on the period of the united Prague towns in 1518-1528 marked by the fight between the Lutheran and traditional Utraquist political elite of the Prague towns and characterised by the spread of the heavy influence of the united city at the university through administrative structures.
Another milestone in the attitude of the Prague council elite towards Lutheranism was the negotiations on the Czech Confession in 1575. These negotiations were marked by clashes between the Prague urban elite, the Lutheran aristocracy and representatives of the Unity of the Brethren.
