This work monitors the construction changes that took place on Bratislava's city fortifications in the first half of the 16th century, and especially after the Battle of Mohács in 1526. The changes were inspired by contemporary trends in fortification architecture.
Based on archival sources, proposals and changes made to the city's fortifications were identified, some of which are supported by archaeological or art history research. In addition to construction changes, we also highlight regulations issued from the period coordinating the strategic defence of the city and mobilising the local population.
These events are presented in the context of Bratislava's new political standing, initially as the seat of Queen Mary, and later as the capital of the Kingdom of Hungary.
