The study attempts to familiarize the reader with the artistic forms and phenomena that Czech art historians usually associate with the term Expressionism. It calls attention to the difficulty of such a terminological definition and the impossibility of a clear national delineation of "Czech Expressionism".
Artistic approaches associated with the term Expressionism in the Czech lands developed on the basis of "transnational" relationships and contacts in which an important role was played not only by Czech German and German artists, but also by artists from various other Central European countries, including Slovenia.
