In his study author deals with comparison of the famous lectures about modern European history, which Ranke read to the king of Bavaria Maximilian II. in Berchtesgaden, 1854, and the one novel of Czech writer Karel Sabina, which is devoted to the political prisoners, who pay in citadel of Olomouc for their revolutionary activities in 1848 -1849. Benedikt Schauberk, Viennese petty bourgeois, is an untypical personality among them.
Revolutionary activities are for him dispensable and therefore he satirizes them.
