Palacký's federalism and its potential for coalitions

Abstract

The federalism of Palacký was firstly influenced by statistical data about individual nations and nationalities within the Habsburg monarchy. During the revolution of 1848 - 1849 he linked his Pre-March Austro-Slavism with political Austro-federalism, though he failed to acquire sufficient political support.

This was also the same case after 1860. It was obvious that his Austro-federalism lacked the sufficient coalition potential to succeed above all among the Austrian Germans, which was most important at least.
