This article focuses on Vladimír Sís (1889-1958), a well-known journalist and writer of the interwar period, and the early years he spent in the Balkan region. Based on his surviving correspondence with a Czech monk, Sáva Chilandarec (Slavibor Breüer), from the years 1909-11, Sís's activities at the Athonite monastery of Hilandar and his relationship with Macedonia and Macedonians are reconstructed.
