International statistics convincingly show that the lifestyle of the Czech population is very risky in terms of health. Excessive alcohol consumption, smoking and unhealthy eating are a long-term problem affecting a large part of the Czech population.
Risky behavior translates into a high incidence of cardiovascular and oncological diseases, which are the most common cause of premature deaths. Scientific evidence as well as practical experience of public health shows that human behavior can be significantly ifluenced, unhealthy habits can be reduced and many chronic diseases can be prevented.
Health is not created in hospitals or specialized centers of sophisticated medicine. Health is created in people's everyday lives.
Not only by public health experts should understand this evidence based knowledge. That should be fully accepted by all health professionals as well as all citizens of the Czech Republic.
Czech politicians have the special responsibility. They should make health promotion a priority of the political agenda and part of the strategy to improve the quality of life of the inhabitants.
