Abstract

The 24th volume of T. G.

Masaryk's Papers (in two volumes) includes Masaryk's printed works from the years 1898 to 1900. The critical edition includes explanatory notes and commentaries, Editorial Note, Bibliography of the "hilsneriáda" and a name index.

Texts with prevailing themes and issues of sociological, educational and political issues and with the need to oppose ritual superstition and anti-Semitism are presented and commented. Masaryk's brave polemical attitude within the so-called "hilsneriáda" is documented and commented.

The question of crowd education, the relationship between journalism, intelligence and the character of the national whole followed the provocative question about the reasons and essence of the national endeavor. Masaryk's texts are aimed at cultural-political issues and agents, they seek to activate and influence them, and through them (and personal example) to cultivate Czech everyday life, the character of the majority.
