Teaching Mathematics to Migrant or Minority Students: Concept for Creating Materials

Abstract

Literature confirms that pupils with migrant backgrounds encounter more difficulties when learning (not only) mathematics than their majority classmates. One of the things their teachers complain about is the lack of suitable materials.

The aim of the presented study is to point out the major principles for creation of suitable materials for teaching in multilingual and multicultural environments. The reported research was conducted within the frame of the Austrian-Czech project Aktion 84p12.
