Regem solemniter excipere. Ecclesiastical ceremonies on the travels of kings of Bohemia to Upper Lusatian and Lower Silesian towns in the second half of the 16th century

Abstract

The essay deals with church ceremonies during rulers' visits, especially ceremony arrivals and oath-takings journeys, which have been relatively poorly studied by the scholars. It takes as an example the journeys of Kings of Bohemia to the secondary lands of the Crown of Bohemia in the period before the battle on the White Mountain.

The ceremonies based on prescriptions of Roman Liber Pontificalis, but varied still not only according to the current political and religious situation, but also logistics possibilities. The author relies on descriptions of realized ceremonies, on one sermon connected with them and on the documentation recording their preparation.
