Protein additives in bridge constructions

Abstract

The protein materials were added to mortars and plasters to modify their mechanical properties. In particular, milk and dairy products, animal glues and gelatine, ox blood and - Chat we are most interested in connection with Charles Bridge - chicken eggs were used.

In this paper we focused on identification of protein additives in two Czech medieval bridges - in the bridge in Roudnice nad Labem and Charles Bridge.
