Abstract

German showed a strong interest in the Czech film industry already during the first months of occupation Bohemia and Moravia in 1939. German officials installed trustees - treuhänders - in film studios, distribution and production companies, as well as in cinemas.

In fact, the German plans for the film industry were, in the end, fulfilled throught taking over the Barrandov and Hostivař studios and the companies Elektrafilm and Slaviafilm. Other film distributors with a Jewish ownership were liquidated.

Aryanization became an important tool in the German takeover of prime cinemas in Prague and Brno.
