Abstract
As Old Czech texts have an important place in European medieval literature, the idea was to make their translations available in the world languages through the MECZ portal. There are few bilingual anthologies of Old Czech literature (for example Anthology of Czech Poetry, edited by Alfred French; or An Anthology of Czech Literature, edited by Walter Schamschula, 1991), however, these are intended primarily for English speaking students of Slavonic studies and often bring only short textual samples.
No less importantly, they focus mainly on the production of the 14th century, favouring religious and secular compositions. In contrast to the existing anthologies, the main aim of the MECZ portal is to provide an overall picture of the Old Czech Literature to not only foreign students of Czech t but mainly researchers dealing with medieval topics.
