Abstract
The risk of developing chronic kidney disease (CKD) in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is increased. While previously the main cause of CKD in RA patients was toxicity of treatment and secondary amyloidosis, with the introduction of modern therapies the situation has changed significantly and the increased incidence of CKD in RA patients is now mainly associated with the presence of comorbid conditions and older age.
The presence of CKD in patients with RA increases the risk of developing cardiovascular disease and premature death. In patients with CKD, RA treatment should be adjusted according to the parameters of renal function.
