The UN Sustainable Development Goals mark the latest addition to the ongoing process of putting the rather theoretical concept of sustainable development into actual practice of States and people. This applies also to the field of utilisation and protection of watercourses, including the international ones.
In the presented article, the author provides basic overview how sustainable development has been reflected in the law of international watercourses and critically assesses whether the UN SDGs mark a step forward in environmental protection of global freshwater resources, primarily the international watercourses.
