In current society, sustainability and nature conservation play an increasingly significant role. Many modern zoos make up an important part of leisure and tourism offerings, as well as conservation institutions, whose crucial role is education.
Based on the content analysis of the information systems of European zoos performed by the author, the paper tries to summarize the breadth of conservation and sustainability-supporting topics and their forms of presentation. It was identified that, in addition to conservation projects abroad, the representation of local nature conservation is still increasing, including a number of activities in which visitors themselves can participate - such as waste management or support for biodiversity (eg. insect hotels).
The reflection of the relationship between man and nature and its consequences are also emphasized, as evidenced by the practical examples mentioned in the text. There is an increasing focus on conservation edutainment that can influence the behaviour of the population.
In this way, zoos can truly take an active part in spreading the ideas of sustainability.
