Culture of expressions and meta-pragmatic phenomena in specific types of communication

Publication at Faculty of Education |
2018

Abstract

In part 1, the paper deals with the different status of metalanguage (where language / its structure is the object referred to) compared to metapragmatics (referring to the ways and forms of the use of language). Metapragmatics is originally anchored in reflexive awareness on the part of lay users concerning their use of language; theoretical metapragmatics emerged only in later development stages of linguistic pragmatics.

In part 2, the paper presents three different views of language use cultivation two of which are based on speakers' metapragmatic awareness. In part 3, analysis aimed at metapragmatic phenomena in a specimen of public communication is shown.
