Background/Objectives: Physical activity (PA) is an important part of comprehensive rehabilitation for people with severe neurological disease (for example: muscular dystrophy etc.). This fact is considered in the recondition stays organization for elderly people with these diagnoses which offer (beside the effect of environment change, social and informational aspect) various forms of suitable PA.
One of them is the Feldenkrais method (FM), which supports natural process of learning through slow conscious movements. Methods: Aim of this study was to verify a possibility of use the FM Awareness Through Movement (ATM) eye lessons as a part of the rehabilitation programme primarily focused on the elderly people with neuromuscular diseases. 18 subjects, most of them in older age (36-78 years; mean age=62.28+-9.06), with different neurological diseases participated in the study. 89 % of the group suffered from pain in the movement system that time.
Eye lesson of the FM lead by certified instructor was implemented to the exercise program in sitting position. Results/Discussion: ATM lesson was rated as a pleasant (89 %), improving eye movements (67 %) and relaxation (67 %), widening field of vision and the sharpness of vision (61 %). 67 % of the subjects perceived improvement of movement in the cervical spine area.
