Aspects of North Korean migration and assimilation in South Korea

Abstract

This article focuses on basic aspects of North Korean migration, motivations of North Koreans leading to a risky defection and on challenges they must face before and after they reach South Korea. The uniqueness of this migration is confirmed not only by the socioeconomic and demographic attributes of North Korean migrants, but also by the following specifics and hardships of latter adaptation into South Korean society.
