Abstract

This article is a qualitative case study on the origin, development and shaping of the Czech political movement ANO 2011 from its foundation in 2012 to the present. Its role as a new phenomenon in the Czech party system is analysed, referring to the European dimension of some aspects of the activities of the leader of the movement as the most important person.

The example of ANO shows typical elements of today's anti-establishment parties and movements, which go hand in hand with the offer to protect citizens from corrupt politicians, but also the presence of a leader-founder as the long-term most striking face of the movement. Significant is also the authority of ANO leader Andrej Babiš within the movement.

The study answers the questions: Which aspects document the novelty of ANO? How does ANO accentuate its anti-establishment appeal?
