CONSTITUTIONAL AND POLITICAL PROBLEMS OF LOCAL SELF-GOVERNMENT DEVELOPMENT IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC

Abstract

Over the past thirty years, there has been a significant development of the territorial self-government in the Czech Republic. It can be noted that the territorial self-government has become a real, interrelated, and stable part of czech society.

However, the development has not been consistent over the whole period of the thirty years in the Czech Republic and had almost stopped after 2007 because of lack of political will. Instead of solving important structural issues, related primarily to addressing the excessive number of municipalities in the Czech Republic, politicians defending the interests of municipalities tend to maintain the current situation.
