An article about the painting Josefina by J. Mánes and about the genesis of the myth that accompanies it.
The aim is to map the development of the "image" of the work in Czech academic literature, fiction, press, theater and film. The starting point is the nickname "Czech Mona Lisa".
Seemingly only a cliché comparison, however, it contributes to the perception of Mánes' portrait. Parallels with Leonardo's chef-d'oeuver are created on the basis of the anonymity of the model, the personal relationship of the artist with the work and the "masterful" quality representing the pinnacle of his work.
