From the "Lusatian Havlíček" to the "Lusatian Božena Němcová" : Karel Havlíček and the relations between the Lusatian Sorbs and the Czechs

Abstract

The paper consults the sorabian contexts of Karel Havlíček from three persepectives: the relationship between Karel Havlíček and the Sorabians, the image of Karel Havlíček in the Sorabian culture of the second half of the 19th century as an inspiration for Sorabian belles-lettres and journalism, and the use of references to Havlíček's contact with the Sorbs as a means of legitimising Czech sorabophiles in the period between the wars.
