It has been thirteen years since the author first wrote this monograph (August 2006) for Kluwer Law International and nine years since the author wrote its second edition (2010). But Czech Labour Law has changed since this time, and the mono-graph for the 2019 edition has had to be partially modified.
The present form of the new Labour Code, compared to the previous Labour Code, is a norm founded on the principle 'what is not prohibited is permitted' and despite many peremptory provisions (ius cogens) it is more liberál. As concerns its relation to civil law, it is possible to apply the new Civil Code (adopted in 2012) to industrial relations subsidiarily.
