Abstract

The monograph deals with the University of Prague in the context of other universities in the Habsburg monarchy in terms of its administrative development since mid 18th century. The upper time limit to which the work is directed is the appearance of the Higher Education Act on May 18, 1950.

The Theresian and Josephine reforms changed the Charles-Ferdinand- University in Prague into an institution that educates civil servants. Another turn in a completely different direction in the development of the university occurred after 1849, when the Thun reforms directed universities towards scientific research and enabled them to be more independent of thought from the state.

This development was then halted by the Higher Education Act after World War II. The study outlines in particular the development of the handling of official documents within the university from their creation to the archiving or shredding, comparison of set standards and reality.

It deals with the typology of official documents, the transformation of their form and content, as well as the operation of the university office and the tasks it performed from the late 18th century to the mid-20th century. It contains a number of photographs of qualification documents of Prague University from the period under review.

In the second part, three papers are edited, documenting the development of work with official papers at the university from different perspectives. In the second part, three papers are edited, documenting the development of work with official papers at the university from different perspectives.
