The purpose of this chapter was to study the response of the Portuguese government and society to the Hungarian Uprising of 1956. That endeavor required a preliminary framework about Salazar's fight against the International Communist Movement and the motivations behind it.
The structure of the chapter included a first section that examines "anti-communism in Salazar's perceptions and policy" and a second section that tried to answer the main research question: how did the Portuguese government and society react to the Hungarian Uprising of 1956?
