Abstract
The article presents the concept of the XX1. summer school of history, that was dealing with different forms of civic society in different historical eras and different political contexts. The lectures of outstanding scholars showed the |Czech society since the times of George of Podebrady, followed by the contributions focused on the formation of liberal-civic society in the XIX. century.
The second part deals with the XX. century: the first Czechoslovak republic, with the concept of the third republic and of the sixties.
