Writing the paper, the author relied on her extensive experience gained in the countries of Africa and her knowledge of local cultures, local thinking and decision-making process. We have noticed that, when targeting migrants and refugees as a special subcategory of report receivers, researchers often fail to take into account the perspective that the people themselves adopt on the media coverage of migration.
Scant attention is also paid to the body of information the people had when they were deciding whether or not to leave their homes and migrate to a foreign country. The paper aims to explore the media information that the people considered when they contemplated moving abroad.
