Genetic engineering as a regulatory challenge of the 21st century

Abstract

The twenty-first century may be the last century of man as we have known him for thousands of years. Scientists come smarter than Einstein, writers better than Capek, musicians better than Mozart.

However, it will not be due to evolution and a lucky coincidence. We will do it ourselves by modifying our genome.

Or, on the contrary, no one will come and the world will remain the same as it is today. The same in all good and bad, but moreover with the feeling of a missed opportunity that could open the door to a new world for us.

Genetic engineering is, without exaggeration, Sophie's choice of this century. How should the right to this choice be approached? In this text I focus on general and theoretical issues of regulation of this technology.
