Abstract

The aim of this paper is to determine the behavioral competencies and personality traits that are sought from sport managers during the recruiting process. The study took place in the Czech Republic and the data were collected online on the biggest recruiting website, jobs.cz.

The data were gathered during the summer of 2018. The sample contains 75 unique job advertisements and was analyzed by the use of content analysis.

The results of this study indicate that communication skills, the ability to work independently, responsibility, organizational skills, planning skills and coordination skills, Microsoft Office competency, English language, thoroughness, precision, and reliability are among the key competencies of sport managers in the Czech Republic. This study confirmed that most key competencies remain the same as presented by Janak1.

The only major difference is that Janak's study showed the importance of team work and this study ranks the ability to work independently higher.
