In the theoretical section the author introduces the theme of spirituality as it manifests itself in human mind and in the development assistance. Supported by her practical experience, she deals with a spiritually sensitive approach to the implementation of development plans, projects and, subsequently, development activities.
The concept of the assistance is addressed from several perspectives: human-rights, ecological and social. The article introduces benefiting from her research and practical experience, enriches the concept with one more perspective: spiritually sensitive.
This enrichment is supported by arguments advanced in the empirical section, where the author presents a selection of research results related to the subject of spirituality. In preparing the research, the author relied on her experience with managing a healthcare & social NGO in Africa.
The research aimed to map the health and social care as perceived by people living in southeastern Uganda, where the care and the related social services are provided to the locals by foreign non-government non-profit organizations. Finally, with the results of her quantitative research in mind, the author added discussion and practical recommendations that complemented the development assistance with the inevitable aspect of spirituality.
