Abstract

The 70th anniversary of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) is a great opportunity for Europe and also for the world to celebrate the gift of this milestone document, which inspired and influenced all the other existing regional human rights mechanisms. The opening sentence of the ECHR's Preamble refers to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) thereby affirming the enduring human rights standards and principles that it helped establish and an ever present reminder of the need to consider this soft law instrument.

It is not a surprise as these two documents are closely connected and have a lot of common. However, each of them provides human rights protection in a different way.

Today, one of the most significant changes in the human rights debate is the increased recognition of the link between business and human rights.
