Abstract

Dutch literature of the 1990s can be characterised by a significant boom in the so-called multicultural (or intercultural) authors (political refugees and second-generation migrants). Jana Beranová and Jan Stavinoha, two authors of Czech origin debuting in poetry and fiction in the early 1980s, did not fully participate in this trend.

This article deals with the reception of these two exiles in the Netherlands, and the possibility of their entrance into the literary canon. One of the aspects investigated in more detail is their self-presentation, namely, whether, and to what extent, they assumed an exilic posture.
