This paper deals with the specifics of using phraseological units with the component 'God' in the discourse of Czech and Russian politicians. Such metalanguage operators intensify the pragmatic effect of a political speech and help to express a position and point of view of a politician.
Many Czech and Russian phraseological units with the component 'God' emerged from prayers, but over time the meaning of the word 'God' was partially desemantized. Metalanguage operators with the component 'God' can often the official tone of speech and show a positive and loyal attitude to the subject.
They can be signals of semantic stress in the speech of a politician and can implement different speech strategies. The use of peculiar phraseological units can represent the linguistic picture of the world of a politician.
