Abstract
Art education in our elementary and secondary schools has a major influence on society's relation to thevisual arts. Art educators play an important role in shaping the attitude to the visual arts of the youngergenerations.
Their approach will greatly affect the young person's relationship to the visual arts in the future,especially if this relationship is not cultivated within the family. The author examines the current situation inCzech schools with compulsory art education using the qualitative research methodology (Hendl, 2012).
Theresearcher processes data obtained from various sources - questionnaire survey, unstructured and semi-structured interviews with teachers, cognitive dispositive. The objective of this research project is to explorethe teaching processes in art education in Czech schools and to find out whether and how teachers usecontemporary art topics in their teaching practice
