Abstract
The paper deals with the difference between two types of understanding of the second commandment, more precisely Ex 20:4 (Dt 5:8), in biblical translations. The first type rejects the creation and worshipping of idols, the second type rejects portraying and worshipping the image of God exclusively, or together with the rejection of creating and worshipping any other idols.
The paper focuses on the understanding of the second commandment in the Swiss reformation.
