Abstract
The article addresses the issue of testimony which has recently been recognized as an important matter, first of all by historians and then, soon after, by philosophers. The first part of the article deals with the problem of subjectivity.
After a brief outline of Ricoeur?s theory of identity, the article raises the issue of testimony, within the context of self-understanding. The second part of the article evaluates the extent to which the concept of testimony can contribute to the exploration of the problem of time.
