Following in the footsteps of Czech teaching in the East of the USA

Abstract

The author reports from her working visit to places in the USA related to Czech emigration, culture and Czech teaching (February - March 2020). Yale University: Czech language has been taught since 1995 (as one of 65 foreign languages).

New York: Czech Centre in the Czech National Hall and Czech and Slovak Language Centre in Astoria (140 pupils attend the school). Chicago: expatriate organisations, TGM Czech school in Cicero (Czech has been taught continuously since 1921, when the school was built for their children by compatriots, attended by 83 children and 26 adults), the University of Chicago and the Consulate General of the Czech Republic.
