References to Master Jan Hus in questions related to the principle of freedom of conscience were not used only by the Czechoslovak (Hussite) Church during the First Czechoslovak Republic era. However, this Church has referred to Hus in this matter in a very specific way, and the freedom of conscience itself is in this context different from what we would expect.
The article attempts to demonstrate special features of this approach to the freedom of conscience in the Czechoslovak (Hussite) Church, the Church's relationship to Jan Hus, and whether the Czechoslovak (Hussite) Church is entitled to refer to Hus in this way.
