Štěpán Schlik in printed sources from the Reformation period

Abstract

The aim of the article is to examine Štěpán Schlick's depiction in German printed texts from the 16th century. Like works of art, the texts appreciate the noble origin and bravery of Štěpán Schlick, and at the same time they connect him directly with the penetration of the Lutheran Reformation into the Ore Mountains.

Literary works created during Štěpán's lifetime, however, also indicate that the founder of Jáchymov did not have to approach the evangelization of the town with such obviousness as the sources from the period after his death in 1526 attribute to him.
