This study endeavours to apply Deleuze and Guattari's theory of smooth space and striated space on the phenomenon of wooden houses that were built in the Beskydy Region from the mid-13th century until the 19th century and that entered the history of folk architecture as roubenky (Czech word for "roubené stavby" meaning log houses). The purpose of the study is to highlight the fact that roubenky, just as folk architecture and folk art as such, ranks among the smooth, while such smooth can hardly resist striated tendencies in the course of time.
The objective of the study is to express a sparkle of hope - that may be hiding in folk art - for our starkly striated world.
