The author discusses advantages and limits of multimodal stylistics, with focus on written (printed) texts. The author believes that multimodal stylistics can build its analytical apparatus on several theories of "traditional" stylistics (e.g. the functional theory of style, the register, distinctive features, the dominant, the communicative perspective, communicative norms) and can integrate them with methodologies developed for the analysis of non-verbal modes (pictures, colours, typography etc.).
