Abstract

Along with numerous artifacts and documents of life on the site, it was also collected from the Lesser Town ensemble large number of animal bones. These can reflect not only consumer behavior and demand for animal products inhabitants of this area, but they also have the potential for informative economic and social ties.

Animals were bred or hunted in the Middle Ages as a source of animal products, were the subject of trade, could be a sign of prestige. Their life and death have been linked to a variety of activities since breeding, handicraft production (butchery, leather, bone and horn processing) and trade for hunting and entertainment.

Possibility getting to know the early medieval society of the Lesser Town through the remains of animals is. We focus our attention on the two most numerous groups of animal finds: domestic - pigs and wild living - birds of prey.

The issues we are interested in relate mainly to animal production and consumption as well social status of the inhabitants of Malá Strana.
