Slovene scientist Matija Murko (1861-1952) formed his Slavic career in Vienna. Later he was a professor in Graz and Leipzig.
The peak of his career he achieved in Charles University in Prague (from 1920 till death). He helped to form Czech Slavistics, at that time its European center.
In Prague period we can analyze three topics in his work: comparative studies of South Slavic literatures, the research of the Serbian and Croatian epics and historical reflections about the situation and the future of Slavic studies.
