The study represents part of the results of research focused on linguistic biographies of members of the Czech minority in Croatia, which took place in 2010-2016. Using the example of several examined families, we try to reveal what factors in ethnic groups affect the maintenance of the original identity of the individual and the group as a whole, and its basic feature - language.
In addition to the factors usually mentioned in the literature, such as official support, identification with the group, religion and association (cultural activity), in the examined families we also monitor the influence of family and choice of life partner, place of acquaintance with future partner, cohabitation in one household, language and communication. competence, employment and a liberal attitude in raising children, and other factors.
