The publication Druhý život Protektorátu Čechy a Morava (The Second Life of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia) is a contribution to Czech remembrance culture with respect to World War II. In his book, the author sets out to describe how the period of Nazi occupation was commemorated in Czechoslovakia immediately after the war and the position, soon afterwards, that the Communist regime went on to assume towards the legacy of Czech anti-Nazi resistance as it sought to use it to its political advantage and, more importantly, present misinterpretations of the legacy in doing so.
Adopting the so-called Places of memory methodology, the author bases his approach on the work of scholars such as Pierre Nora, Hagen Schulze, Etienne François and Aleida Assmann. For this publication, the author has chosen to provide essayistic insights into a range of topics that pertain to Czech WWII remembrance culture.
