Abstract

Determination of vessel currents magnitudes and paths during disruptions plays a crucial role in the understanding of mechanical loads on the machine. Direct measurements of current ows during vertical displacement events (VDEs) were performed on COMPASS in order to validate the ATEC model.

The measurements exhibit dependence on toroidal eld (Bt ) and plasma current (Ip) directions. Tile misalignment and eddy currents owing across the gaps between the divertor tiles are the two considered hypotheses that could explain the experimental results.
